FFront Yard
Fences in the required front yard cannot exceed 4 ft tall and must be in an ornamental style (picket, board-on-board, shadow box, post-and-rail, vinyl, iron, brick, or stone).
SSide Yard
Side-yard fences may be up to 6 ft tall in the same ornamental styles. Fences must not block sight lines at intersections on corner lots.
BBackyard
Rear-yard fences may be up to 6 ft tall. Anything higher requires a variance from the Zoning Board of Appeals.
Permit Requirements
Yes — approval from the Township Building Inspector is required before you build, alter, or relocate a fence. Submit your application in person or by mail to 4111 LaPlaisance Rd — email submissions are not accepted.
Setback Requirements
Leave enough room between your fence and the property line so you can do maintenance on your own side. Fences cannot be placed inside a road right-of-way.
Notable Ordinance Provisions
Barbed wire, spikes, nails, or any sharp instruments are prohibited on residential fences. Chicken wire and flexible livestock mesh are not allowed in residential districts.
